Frank Armstrong

I have lived in Beaconsfield Old Town, (which I represented on the Town Council between 2007-2011), for nearly 30 years and am getting used to the place which I have no intention of leaving.  A widower, I have twin daughters who reside near enough for us to meet regularly:  there are of course Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren too, which I  believe I’m too young to have.   I do admit to being old enough to remember the war but young enough not to have served in HM Forces till I was called up as a National Serviceman in 1949 when I saw service in the British Army of the Rhine.  On leaving the Army my old job was still available and so I returned to servicing sewing machines for a short time while I thought out my future.  At this point I met my wife to be, which helped me come to a decision to join the Police Force. The majority of my Police service was served in the West Riding of Yorkshire which I came to know fairly well as I was moved around the County fairly regularly, the longest stay in one area being seven years.  Times have changed for me since coming to live in Buckinghamshire where I lived in Farnham Common for some time prior to settling in Beaconsfield.   As a result of ill health, retirement came early as I had a stroke on my 60th birthday since when I have involved myself in a variety of charity work.  As well as being on the County and Beaconsfield Royal British Legion committees I have similar positions on SSAFA Forces Help and Beaconsfield Old Town Residents Association.  I am also an active member of the Beaconsfield Lions Club and the Neighbourhood Action Group and when I became a Town Councillor I discovered other voluntary groups to join.

Some time prior to the last Council Elections in 2007, I was approached by Archie Legg who asked me my opinions regarding local politics. At that time I was a regular attender at Council meetings and had formed the opinion that National  Politics had no place in local matters which I considered were for the benefit of all local residents and not just a chosen few.  This opinion is just as strong with me today as it was then and in fact the more I see and hear of national politics and politicions the stronger this opinion becomes and I dare say that is why I am an independant and will always remain so.
